# Home directory

During the execution of a [Transcript](broken://pages/-LHF0KRldjtjGBU7bcDg) task, or during the generation of a report, a number of files are accessed, both for reading and writing. The user *Home Working Directory* (referred to throughout this documentation as `home_dir` or `base_dir`) is the directory relative to which these files are located.

The home directory should preferably be located on a dedicated volume i.e. `D:\exivity\home` and it is recommended that it be located on an SSD drive.
